I remember seeing Ray Chapple race--anyone know what happened to him?
Hi Bob,
I really didn't know Charlie or Ray Chapple but have become Facebook "Friends" with Charlie. I posed your question to him and this was his response.

Charlie Chapple:

"Ray passed away Aug 2001 but it was a FULL life he lived.."

Charlie said Ray was 47 in 2001. Godspeed Ray Chapple.

I was at the spring, 1972 race at Kingsport, TN. Stockcar type track, kind of a bowl shaped. It was a saturday night/sunday afternoon deal. I thought Liston Chappel from FL died that night. Badly injured was Michigan Junior rider Roger Sheffler, young brother of Freddie Sheffler. I thought I had heard that he also died. Don't remember the results, need help on this one. I do recall Markel was there, also first time I'd seen Mike Kidd with a white plate 72N. I didn't ride that event, but friends 21L Johnny DeMoisey, Sr., Jerry Althouser (Columbus,OH), and Jim Hedrick (Bright, IN) did. Anybody remember this event in Spring, 1972?
Larry,
Liston did not die that night but was paralyzed and took his own life later on. I'm thinking it took place in a doctors office waiting on test results. Like I said before I was only 10 years old in 1972 but all these guys were my heroes so I kept up with what was going on.
