I like to think of myself as a fan of racing. I appreciate the support classes of racing in motorcycles, cars, hydroplanes but I really enjoy the unlimited class the most. I enjoyed the Ferrari, Ford Gt40, Ford Cobra, Porsche purpose built racing cars in Monza and Le Mans. I enjoyed watching the Formula 1 race cars in Monza. I like to watch and hear the old time unlimited Thunder boat hydroplanes in Seattle. Alcohol circle track Sprint cars and Top fuel car drag race cars are great excitement. I find speedway racing to be really exciting. All of these are purpose built race machines.
In each discipline of racing there are lesser classes. There are limited hydroplanes both inboard and outboard. In circle racing there are the midgets, dwarf, and ledgend cars. In drag racing there are the Alcohol dragsters, Funny cars, right down to the stock car you drove to the track.
In Europe Speedway racing is very popular drawing thousands of fans to each race. The bikes are purpose built and dont look anything like what the fans rode to the races. Jawa, GM, Weslake, etc dont sell many street bikes.
I enjoy the XR 750 Harleys. If Harley is pushed out I will still go to the races but I will always remember I got to see the best of the best. I dont remember the Harley/Indian wars but I do remember the Harley/Honda/Kawasaki/Yamaha racing at San Jose.
I appreciate the street bike based racers with the stock frames and hopped up motors but I still think theres nothing like a field of Harleys.

How has the XR 750 hurt dirt track. You people haven't a clue. The XR 750/ Harley Davidson is what kept this sport above water. There are no metric brand dealers wanting to come into this sport and give a hand for a twins ride. They are all broke. At least the harley dealers will support riders and help the promoters. The OE's don't even want to help out with Singles at all, not for the pro class that they race every weekend mile's, half miles, what ever or they don't even want to help out with the experts. As for the Pro riders not being able to get a good ride. Your right there are no good rides out there right now because there is no money out there. Suzuki and Aprila almost won twins main events and also Suzuki dropped there singles champion and bailed out of the sport completely. I know harley did the same this year but at least there going to stay in the sport and support it. Every time AMA drop's the ball or Pomona almost getting cancelled there is so many things they go crying to harley and harley bails them out. Let them run. Trying to change what is on the inside change the outside.

I'm all about having more brands being in the twins series....and i'm not a fan of Harley Davidson's in general....

That being said, this seems alot like what Honda was dealt in the late 80's

I know we all have the FIX figured out, but HERE IT REALLY IS:

DMG should require every Twin's class engine to come from a production street bike that has at least 200 units produced each year. That would force Harley to produce a street version of the XR-750. They could easily design a "girl's bike" much like the Speedster only with an XR engine. Then you would get some crashed bikes each year that would make some engines available or it would also make the complete bike cheap enough that you could buy a new complete mc to get the engine and then put it back in the street bike at the end of the season and sell it for street use and get another new one. This would force HD to make a few parts in China and get the cost of the bike down to at most, say $7000.00 or $8,000.00 bucks. Then require the engines to race box stock so that the privateer could stay competitive with out spending big bucks on development. No port work, no cam changes, and etc. Then, adjust the rules for the other brands as needed to make them competitive. The whole problem with the sport is the high cost of a twin not that one brand is dominant. There is plenty of racers out there coming up but the brick wall is the cost to race a twin. It is so simple that you can't see the forest because of the trees.

More riders makes more "connected" spectators and more "connected" spectators means more friends and relatives of each rider that will be at the races.

I say the nucleus of the whole sport is the rider count. When you could be getting 100 up coming riders in the support class then you would have 70 to 100 in the top pro division. WHO CARES WHAT THE BRAND IS.

Instead or going for multi brands and manufacturers support, just make it cheaper and the riders can afford to fund their own deal.

If you grow the sport then all the sponsor stuff, and factory involvement will fall in your lap. They will then have a "business" motivation to be involved instead of some kind of loyal support for the old sport of flattrack racing. It's all about Capitalism. We all love the sport but business is business.

I would say if the XR 750 is pushed out of Flattrack racing, you will not see fans filling the grandstands at some races like you do see. I bet Hagerstown, Lima, Dayton and others would only see about 1/3 the crowd. Not good for the sport. I dont like the direction the sport is going as far as rules and classes. I think the teams and riders need to voice their opinions more, like just park it and dont show up at the first twins event. With out riders, they dont have a show and maybe they will take another look at things.

I am a life long Honda fan and have been going to dirt track races my whole life and I am usually watching XR’s and I keep coming back because of the awesome talent and great racing. The riders are what make this sport so wonderful not the bike.
