883 Handling question 2 Months, 1 Week ago
I know the old 883 flat track series bikes were slow and heavy . I also know modifications were allowed to the bikes and I have one question I wish as many people would comment on as possible : How did they handle ? I've never heard anybody praise or be critical of them on this subject . For a stock frame , were they better than other brands super trackers !

Hi Randy,
Truth be told the 883's handled quite well particularly on fast rough tracks. The high sprung mass to unsprung mass ratio proved to be an asset.

Back to back testing @ Sacramento, San Jose and Del Mar comparing a single with similiar peak power proved very educational.

Several riders enjoyed racing the 883's.
Many a RR career was launched via the series.
The money was also good.

All in all they were OK unless the front end fell off.

day said motorcycles proved to handle

Well , Dale I appreciate your thoughts as always . I have seen the front end crashed off . Was this a defect or just required welding , etc . ? Hope you are having fun with that grand baby !

Such was a Spec. class.
I simply considered such to be an emergency kill switch.
Of course, I was not the pilot.
