Don Castro Triumph 2 Years, 1 Month ago
For those of you that won't be at Mid Ohio, here's a sneak peek of my latest resto. It's Don Castro's 750cc Triumph restored to June of '72 San Jose 1/2 mile.

Later,Don

The best I can tell is that it was banned by the AMA for "Slipstreaming" It is in the rule book that slipstreaming is not allowed. I guess they thought it was too slippery. Can you imagine what the bikes would look like today with crazy body work and multiple cylinder configurations? The TZ would have looked like a space ship

Don only raced the bike once with that body work at the '72 San Jose 1/2 mile.

Awesome resto!
Is that original paint? Wow.
Not enough people appreciate the peculiar style from this era.

Re:Don Castro Triumph 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Thanks.

No, not original paint. Luckily I grew up when that kind of painting was cool and did a lot of custom van and bike stuff myself.

I spent 6-7 days re-creating that beast. That's with drying times, burying flake under clear, multi colors and effects, sand and rubbing to perfection, then hand lettering the Fiberglas Works and Don's name on the back.

The whole resto has been off and on for a long time. I started by obtaining that body work over 10 years ago, from Don. The rest trickled in over the years. 2-3 years ago. Someone called Don with the frame. Luckily he thought to call me.

It isn't easy to find all of them pieces and parts. Luckily I had some very kind friends help in the search and part with a few prized bits. They know who they are THANKS A MILLION!! I won't mention their names. everyone will be emailing looking for more, HA!!

I'll post more pix when I get back from Mid Ohio. Hopefully with out all that junk in the background. for now here's the other side.
