Rossville, TN- On the white limestone track just outside of turn 1 at the world famous Daytona International Speedway, fortunes can be made or broken in the blink of an eye. A track surface that changes quicker than any other that riders see during the entire AMA Pro Flat Track Presented by J&P Cycles series gives riders a challenge throughout the day.

Team mechanic Clayton Shambaugh worked into the very early morning hours to get Briar’s Yamaha YZF450’s ready to do battle once again. Briar suited up to take on the “un-timed” practice session and using a similar set up to what he had on Thursday night, finished a very strong and respectable 8th place, just a quarter of a second off of the pole sitter’s time.  In the first qualifying session Briar was even stronger, finishing 6th overall, and now just 0.140 seconds off of the pole time! “The bike felt great” said Briar, “All of my laps were consistent and I knew right away that our set up was good for the day.”

AMA Pro Racing/Dave HoenigPOMONA, Calif. (October 13, 2012) -

This just in; the state of California knows how to put on a solid race. For the third and final time this season, AMA Pro Flat Track was back in the golden state in front of an ecstatic crowd. Kenny Coolbeth Jr. (Screaming Eagle Harley-Davidson) got the win in what proved to be a phenomenal grand finale to conclude the 2012 season. When the lights turned on Saturday night at the LA County Fairplex, engines roared throughout the confines of the stadium and the euphoric fans hung on every lap. Though Coolbeth Jr. put on a show to claim his second victory of the year, the real story of the night was Jared Mees (Rogers Racing/ Harley-Davidson) as he took home the coveted AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com and Lucas Oil No. 1 plate.

"The feeling hasn't really sunk in yet," said Mees. "So much hard work and dedication has gone in to this season and it all paid off. I kind of knew where I was at the whole way and was able to bring it home. I really have to thank my team and sponsors for all of their support this year; this was a great team effort."

Though Mees finished eighth, his effort was more than enough as his only competitors for the title, Sammy Halbert (Southeast Harley/ Harley-Davidson) and defending Grand National Champion Jake Johnson (Zanotti Racing/ Harley-Davidson) looked sluggish the whole way.

Endurance Races have always been a rider’s race. We come together and test ourselves against our machines, the track, and each other. It’s more of a community than a competition. That’s why we decided last year that the final race of the season would be dedicated to a fellow racer who has passed.

This year, the Four Hour Endurance Series at OVRP would like to take a day to remember a great friend of the sport, Pete Giammalvo. Pete was known to many for his participation in all forms flat-track racing, and from his work to promote the sport in Sideways Promotions.

Pete lives on in the racers that he influenced and through the success of the sport he helped promote.
