Springfield TT - Saturday, May 23, 2009 It was nice to finally get back racing again. From here on out it will be full bore racing every weekend for me. Maybe not Nationals every weekend, but something for sure. We started off Memorial Day weekend with the TT. During the practice test day I felt really good. With the TT every year the IMDA throws us a curve ball because the track is different every time as far as the lay out. But it seems that every year that we have a test there I feel great, then come race day I can’t get around the place. Well, I sort of had a little of the same problem, but finally got it figured out later in the night. I qualified 6th overall which I was happy about since the track changes so much from one session to the next. It is tough to know really where you stand. |

 Springfield Mile
5/21/09 Shepps Speedway Alexander, IL Practice on this little car track was not going very well for me, my bike seemed very unstable as I was bouncing off every turn and was getting passed by a lot of people, I knew I would get it figured out eventually I just hoped it would be sooner rather than later. By the time my heat race came around, the track looked a lot better and I assumed the changes I made to my bike would help me get up to pace. I nailed the holeshot and just had to hold off Bryan Bigelow and Jared Mees. I was able to run a good pace and get the win giving me a front row start and a shot at the $2,000 to win main event. |

Headed out Thursday for the Amateur TT on Friday night to watch George and the other sponsors go at it on the 230s. Unfortunately, George Mack came off the jump in the 1st practice and felt severe pain in his knee and couldn’t ride the rest of the weekend. Guy Weidman “filled in” for the night and had some fun. Matt did not qualify as good as he needed to for a front row start, and the struggle began. He finished well enough in the heat to position himself on the front row for the semi. Coolbeth, Russell and Matt were in the top qualifying positions when the red flag appeared. Matt got a good holeshot on the restart and had a few bike lengths heading down into turn one, but took a hard shot to the swingarm and ended up 5th or 6th over the jump. He could not get back to the top 3 and did not qualify for the show. He felt very disappointed, especially for George, who works very hard to put great bikes under him. Double weekends are tough when you don’t do as well as you think you should on the first day, but time to brush yourself off and get on with it! |
